Microderm is the shortened term for the treatment of microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion will remove the superficial layers of skin gently through scraping and vacuum suction. The process involves treated clean skin with the use of pressure, a mild abrasive substance such as crystals and gentle mechanical suction to scrape away the surface layer of skin.
Microderm treats photo-damaged skin, decreases and evens pigmentation, softens scars, can control some forms of acne and can diminish fine lines and wrinkles. The gentle remove of those surface layers enhance skin cell turn over. The results are an immediate visible and touchable smoothness with a brighter and more refreshed appearance. Several treatments spaced 1-2 weeks apart will result in reduced pore size, reduced fine lines, lessened stretch marks, scar softening and sun spot/ age spot reduction. Collagen fibers are also stimulated to give skin a firmer appearance.
Medical, spa and home versions of microdermabrasion are available. Medical and spa grade treatments tend to be more aggressive and will produce a more dramatic change in the skin faster than an at home version. Individual session costs can range from $75 - $250. |
